Isn’t slasher, horror and pizza the perfect combination?
Alberto Maizón takes his passion for horror cinema to the next level with Pizzópata, a short film presented in the form of a faux trailer. The result is a delicious blend of the gritty visual sensibilities of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the irreverent humor of the parody films that have lovingly poked fun at horror’s most iconic classics.
Despite its brief runtime, Pizzópata is remarkably efficient. It quickly establishes its serial killer, the weapon of choice, and the unique method behind the carnage. At the same time, its characters embody familiar genre archetypes, an important element when introducing a story and clearly defining each role within it. The faux trailer packs in an impressive body count, and several of its kill sequences left me wanting to see them expanded into full scenes. The concept itself has enough potential to thrive in a longer format.
I loved the references, the shot compositions that pay homage to classic horror films, and the overall aesthetic of the project. The talent and creative vision behind Pizzópata are impossible to ignore. Hopefully, this is only the beginning of what promises to be a rich and exciting filmmaking career.
Following its test screening in Valencia, Spain, Pizzópata is now gearing up for an international film festival journey. Be sure to give it a bite.
